With 1000 Grand Lakes in Itasca County there is a bounty of ice fishing opportunities. At first safe ice Pokegama Lake and as well as many area lakes are dotted with small cities of ice shanties and portables. There are several lakes close to Southwood Resort as well as Pokegama that offer a wide variety ice fishing and spearing action.
You can diddle your ice rod, set a trap for monster northerns with you tip up, or try you hand spearing northerns through the ice, a true up north tradition. Some of the nicest walleye and northerns are taken during the winter months when the fair weather fishermen are curled up in there easy chairs. Bring your 4 wheeler or snowmobile and enjoy cool crisp mornings and the star lit northern skies.
Bring your own equipment and shelter or we have rental equipment available. We offer 2 single person Clams, a 4 hole portable, and a hard side 4 hole ice shelters. We have a variety of augers and a variety of other ice fishing equipment for rent. See the list below for equipment available.
